October 17-22


Studio Projects: Pencil Value Drawings

  • Monday: Should begin breaking down your values today. You set the 0s and the 9s – decide which pencil will give you the best light and dark values. Begin sculpting the objects in value. Don’t get distracted by details. Environments Journal pages are due! Mini-Labs will be graded along with the environment pages.
  • Tuesday: Homework drawings are due. Discuss how to decide what are the best techniques to use for the creating the values on each object.
  • Wednesday: Work on Value Still Life. Next Journal Assignment will be introduced. Students may work on the journal during the value project.
  • Thursday- Friday: Working value project or journal assignments.

Homework – Beginning on Tuesday, October 18th, homework assignment will be to draw a shirt hanging on a hanger. Each day you should change the shirt. Use pen, record the beginning and ending time. Draw for 5 minutes uninterrupted. Remember this is modified contour drawing – all will be in line. Drawings due on Tuesday, October 27th.

Journal Assignment – Make 5 full page spreads (a half page). Your decide the concept. A good place to look for inspiration is to open up your language book and point to a sentence. Make it the basis for the concept. For technique – choose a different technique from the “Stuck? Need a new idea?” Journaling technique pages in your folder. Include writing with each paqge. Due on Monday, November 1st.

  • Studio Projects: Work on your giant Value Drawing.
  • Homework – follow the assignments for DP1.
  • Journal Assignment – 8 full-page spreads (1/2 pages)  like DP1.
  • Home Project – Choose one of your Full-Page Spreads and develop it into a completed piece.
