November 1-5

Studio Projects: Color Value Drawings

  • Monday: Introduce drawing Value using Color. Mini-lab: Color value spheres and practicing new medium-chalk pastels and felt paper. EXTRA CREDIT: BRING IN RED APPLES AND/OR GREEN PEARS FOR FRUIT STILL-LIFE!
  • Tuesday: Journal Assignment Due Today. Homework: 5 Shirts Due today. Review setting up a composition. Complete at least 3 contour sketches of still-life for compositional planning.
  • Wednesday: . Finish value spheres mini-lab and contour composition planning sketches BEFORE Beginning color value still-life drawing on felt paper using chalk pastels.
  • Thursday: Work on Color Value Still-life drawings.
  • Friday: Value Still-Life Drawing Due Today. Work on Color Value Still-life drawings.

Homework – Beginning on Tuesday, October 25th, homework assignment will be to draw a shirt hanging on a hanger. Each day you should change the shirt. Use pen, record the beginning and ending time. Draw for 5 minutes uninterrupted. Remember this is modified contour drawing – all will be in line. Drawings due on Tuesday, November 2.

Journal Assignment – Make 5 full page spreads (a half page). Your decide the concept. A good place to look for inspiration is to open up your language book and point to a sentence. Make it the basis for the concept. For technique – choose a different technique from the “Stuck? Need a new idea?” Journaling technique pages in your folder. Include writing with each paqge. Due on Tuesday, November 2nd.

Studio Projects: Pencil Value Drawings

  • Monday: Work on Still Life. 
  • Tuesday: Homework drawings are due. Work on Still Life. Today you should be moving from mid-state into the finishing stages of the drawing.
  • Wednesday: Work on Value Still Life. Last day in class. Still Life Drawing is due on Wednesday, November 3rd.

Studio Projects: Pencil Value Drawings

  • Monday: Should begin breaking down your values today. You set the 0s and the 9s – decide which pencil will give you the best light and dark values. Begin sculpting the objects in value. Don’t get distracted by details. Environments Journal pages are due! Mini-Labs will be graded along with the environment pages.
  • Tuesday: Homework drawings are due. Discuss how to decide what are the best techniques to use for the creating the values on each object.
  • Wednesday: Work on Value Still Life. Next Journal Assignment will be introduced. Students may work on the journal during the value project.
  • Thursday- Friday: Working value project or journal assignments.

Studio Projects: Pencil Value Drawing

  • Monday: Teacher Workday – no school.
  • Tuesday: Homework drawings are due. Begin modified contour drawings of your still life in your journal – you will need 3 drawings. Discuss what makes a well-planned composition.
  • Wednesday: PSAT – no class.
  • Thursday: Complete your still life drawing plan. Discuss how to begin the still life drawing.
  • Friday: Work on your still life drawing. Journal assignment due today.
Homework – Beginning on Tuesday, October 19th, homework assignment will be to draw a coffee cup on different surfaces. Use pen, record the beginning and ending time. Draw for 5 minutes uninterrupted drawing. Drawings due on Tuesday, October 12th.

October 4 - 8

DP 1
Studio Projects: completing the Expressive Hands and will begin a pencil Value Drawing

  • Monday: Work on Hands. New journal assignment will be handed out. REMEMBER: I removed the "windows" option under requirements.
  • Tuesday: Homework drawings are due. Work on Expressive Hands and Journal.
  • Wednesday-Thursday: Introduce value drawing and discuss different pencil techniques. Complete 6 mini-labs in your Journal by Tuesday, October 12.
  • Friday: Critique Tool Composites and Expressive Hands.Complete the Pencil techniques and value sphere in journal.

Extra Credit – bring in Asian objects for a still life.
